Inkscape 1.4.3 ============== Inkscape 1.4.3 is now available for all three supported operating systems (Linux, macOS, Windows)! You can download it from: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.4.3 BUGFIX and MAINTENANCE RELEASE ------------------------------ Inkscape 1.4.3 is be a maintenance and bugfix release, which brings you fixes for many critical or irritating bugs, and even a few new features. The most important fixes and changes in this release are: * 24 crash/freeze fixes many of which prevented users from opening certain files or exporting certain objects with Inkscape 1.4.2 * almost 100 bug fixes and small improvements, among them: * JPEG/JPG export works again on Windows. * The problem with user interface text showing up as rectangles ('tofu') instead of letters if certain fonts are installed on macOS is finally resolved. * Ungrouping big groups is faster again. * All pasting options ('on page', 'width'/'height'/'size'/…) are now accessible from the right-click menu on canvas. * The Measure tool snaps again at its end point, so you can make accurate measurements again. * The LPE dialog now offers to convert Line, Polyline or Polygon SVG objects to paths before applying a path effect to them * When resizing the Inkscape window, the buttons in the Commands bar (copy, paste, open, dialog shortcuts) show up one by one instead of waiting for the window to get big enough to show the second half at once. * When converting strokes to paths, patterns and gradients are no longer lost. * Aligning on a circle or arc now works more reliably. * Text on Path now also works with rectangles. * Many improvements have been made to the PDF import. * Results from path operations no longer end up at the bottom of the object stack unexpectedly and the Split Path operation has learnt to better handle nested shapes. * The current layer by default is now the one where you have last selected an object (might need a preferences reset to apply). * Whether the current page is changed when you select an object on it has been made optional. * You can now make small changes to how Inkscape looks without needing to modify the full theme file. * The bug that sometimes made it impossible to make gradients and patterns fully opaque has been prevented from reaching adulthood (it has been around since 2007!). * and 25 updated interface languages as well as 13 updated documentation languages! Versions lower than Inkscape 1.4.3 will not be able to interpret pages created in Inkscape versions 1.5 and upwards. Opening a document in Inkscape 1.4.3 and saving it will convert it to the current ('old') page format. Background: While the 'old' format of pages in Inkscape is a custom addition that only works in Inkscape, the new format will make use of the svg:view element, which is standardized and can work in other SVG viewers, too. Reminder for man page translation

Hi all, as we've had a deterioration in the French man page translation, I'd like to send out a reminder for how to translate the man page syntax: * DO translate example text, like FILENAME, OBJECT-ID * DO NOT modify the structure of the syntax of the commands (e.g. turning --pdf-pages=PAGE[,PAGE] into --pdf-page=PAGE ) * DO NOT modify pieces of SVG source code, e.g. translate inkscape: or sodipodi: to just inkscape or sodipodi If anyone is available to fix the French man page, while it will be not be updated for 1.4.3, it may still go into a possible 1.4.4 (and I have not checked whether the master branch is affected also). 1.4.3 deadline for documentation translations

Hi all, I'm going to make the cut for documentation translations that will make it into 1.4.3 on Monday, Dec. 22 at 00:00 UTC (that's the minute after Sunday, Dec. 21 at 23:59). Inkscape 1.4.3 Release Candidate ================================ Inkscape 1.4.3rc(2) is now available for testing for all three supported operating systems (Linux, macOS, Windows)! Being a pre-release, this version is not intended for production use, but to help us smooth out any issues that should not show up in the actual release which is due in less than 2 weeks from now. String freeze for 1.4.3

Hi devs, hi translators, With about three weeks to go before 1.4.3 release, we are now in */string freeze/.* If we find critical mistakes, they will be communicated to translators, but you should consider that the translatable strings in weblate (for Inkscape 1.4.x component : https://translate.inkscape.org/projects/inkscape/1-4-x/inkscape/ ) should not move before the release. If possible, can you submit potential updates before Dec 19th ? If you need a few more days, please contact me so that I know that some translation is in the works. Thanks everyone ! Best, -- Marc

Hi translators, Attempting to make the Inkscape translation process more inviting and easy to grasp, you can now use our Weblate instance, hosted on https://translate.inkscape.org , to translate Inkscape. The proposed process is described into the readme of https://gitlab.com/inkscape/translations , which will be used to update the website and wiki once we are confident on the quality of the instructions for new translators. They is still room for changes, depending on your feedback and remarks, so feel free to report if anything is not working as it should, or if you see anything that could be better automated, and I'll try to fix it. ** Automation ** - The potfile will now be updated /daily/ from the related branches, and the new strings should also be immediately available in Weblate. - Weblate should push changes to the translation repository /daily / - The Inkscape code (artifacts) will be updated /weekly/ from the translation repository - Documentation (man, tutorials, keys) are also present on weblate ** Weblate process ** Weblate supports a variety of workflows, and we should be able to accommodate them based on your needs. The current (default) state is "anyone can suggest translations, anyone /who is logged in/ can validate translations". We can create teams who would have review rights for languages if needed - see https://docs.weblate.org/en/latest/admin/access.html for what is doable. Weblate logins are through gitlab, so that we (ideally) don't have to deal with spam accounts (and any string change will be tied to a gitlab user). Weblate lets people download and upload po files, and supports things like "upload po files as a set of suggestions to review", so any current workflow based on poedit or other tools that you would already use should still work. what is the delay between Weblate string translation or editing and actual presence of those strings in repository ?

I translated or edited some strings in Weblate and then I wanted to export the whole translation to my PC in order to check the translations into the real thing (local Inkscape), but the string in the exported file were still the "old" ones, same as in gitlab if I'm not mistaken. What is the delay as in <subj.> ? If I knew the gap was quite big, I would rather have translated it "traditionally" in offline mode and only upload to Weblate from time to time, in order to be able to check my translation right away, whenever I want or need. And somewhat related, from past experience with LibreOffice, a same string translated in – say – current branch, becomes automatically translated in master (or the other way round, or something like that). My name is Daniel Nylander and I translate open source software to Swedish for the past 25 years. Living in Stockholm, Sweden. 50 years old. Would like to translate the Inkscape website next. I have already done the application but it needs reviewing, Beginner's Guide as well.. working copy at https://danielnylander.se/inkscape/ Would really like to get some assistance from Swedish speaking people to review and maintain the translation.
